Longer Waits For Refunds in 2014

In addition to a delayed start to file tax returns, the IRS has announced that it would not issue refunds as quickly as in past years because of anti-identity-theft controls it is implementing. New procedures are being employed for 2013 returns to detect identity theft and help prevent refund fraud, a problem that has become much worse in recent years. The IRS was in the process of testing and debugging these systems when the government shut down back in October.
